Their motto is “find what you love” and you can do just that! Not only do they bring you new discoveries every day, from gourmet foods to home products to accessories and apparel, but they do so at prices so low they have to keep them private.

SneekPeeq makes discovering new merchandise fun through social shopping and gamification – they have hidden tons of fun badges and price reducing rewards throughout their site. Also you can accumulate additional discounts from the badges and rewards you unlock. So, the more you buy, share, love, and peeq, the more incentives and surprises you’ll receive.  You can spend them at anytime and that unique item that you absolutely must have!  Check back often because they are constantly featuring  new brands and products just asking to be discovered daily.

Give the Most Precious Gift of All: Your Time http://longislandchick.com/give-most-precious-gift-of-all-your-time/ http://longislandchick.com/give-most-precious-gift-of-all-your-time/#comments Sat, 14 Apr 2012 19:04:20 +0000 http://longislandchick.com/?p=8395 Our time is truly our most precious commodity.  We are always so busy doing something or going somewhere.  This is the age of multitasking – I used to boast about carrying on more than 5 conversations at once – texting, instant messaging and email. Now, I don’t necessarily think that is quite as impressive as giving someone your undivided attention – especially our children. Many of the mom bloggers out there have infants and toddlers – take heed: THEY GROW UP QUICK!  Before you know it, that little cherub of a son will be busy with his own friends and you will be wondering where the time went and why you didn’t spend more time with him when you were his whole world.

Today, I decided to do just that – give my son, Ryan, my undivided attention.  I asked him to come out back with me to survey the yard and garden.  It is such a beautiful day and I wanted to get some fresh air. Ryan, as long as you aren’t asking him to go to Walbaums (heaven forbid!), is happy to do what ever you would like to do.  He promptly put his sneakers on and we went outside.  Spring is a time of new beginnings and I love seeing the plants push through the soil. It is also the time for us to do some yard cleanup as we never really accomplish that in the fall.  My one rose bush has shot up to be taller than me – we walked over there to admire its tenacity when I noticed a bottle of bubbles.  These scented bubbles (green apple) were in Ryan’s Easter basket.  Like finding hidden treasure, Ryan said “ooooooohh” and reached for them.  You know your boy is still a child as long as he can enjoy blowing bubbles.  So we sat down on the steps of the deck and blew bubbles together:

I was very content to just watch him blow bubbles and enjoy his delight in blowing some huge bubbles and catching them, especially after last week.  The accident changed my perspective a bit I think – makes me appreciate the little things because it is these little things that sometimes count the most.

So, go out there and give your child your undivided attention and create some memories!

Thrifty Thursday: Ryan’s Fantastic Find at the Dollar Store http://longislandchick.com/thrifty-thursday-ryans-fantastic-find-at-dollar-store/ http://longislandchick.com/thrifty-thursday-ryans-fantastic-find-at-dollar-store/#comments Thu, 22 Mar 2012 17:01:56 +0000 http://longislandchick.com/?p=8289 Going to the Dollar Store is an adventure.  You never know what you are going to find there. Today, Ryan was feeling a bit under the weather and, since he always goes to school without fail, I decided to keep him home.  After a nap and a “bio” (to use a World of Warcraft term), he felt much better so we ventured out.  First we explored the new 99 cent store in Freeport which was not only crappy but swelteringly hot in there (did I just make up a word – hmmm…). We promptly left that dump, had a quick bite at Subways next door and went to the Baldwin Dollar Tree up on Grand Avenue.

We bought plenty of goodies, none over a dollar – unlike 99 Cent Empire where most things were over a dollar (what is the point? really???). Ryan had a dollar to spend and here is what he spent it on:

We did pick up some other great items, but this was definitely the highlight of out trip 🙂

Things to do on Long Island: Catch a LI Ducks Game! http://longislandchick.com/things-do-on-long-island-catch-li-ducks-game/ http://longislandchick.com/things-do-on-long-island-catch-li-ducks-game/#respond Mon, 11 Jul 2011 23:15:25 +0000 http://longislandchick.com/?p=2092 My family is trying to do activities we have never done before to make this summer exciting.  One of the things we would like to do is attend a Long Island Ducks baseball game.

The Long Island Ducks, 2004 Atlantic League champions, play at Bethpage Ballpark, located in Central Islip, N.Y. The 22 million dollar facility seats 6,002 fans, and is home to Long Island’s first professional baseball team. The Ducks principal owner is long-time Brightwaters resident Frank Boulton. Frank has owned and operated many successful minor league franchises, including the Prince William Cannons, the Albany-Colony Yankees (Class-A and AA affiliates of the New York Yankees), the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Class-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals) and the Atlantic City Surf. Frank is the founder and chairman of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.

Today, the Long Island Ducks won their bid to have a second minor league baseball team on Long Island. Here is the press release:

(Mineola, N.Y., July 11, 2011) – Nassau County officials today announced that the rights to operate a minor league baseball team as part of the new Coliseum development has been awarded to the Atlantic League and Frank Boulton, founder and CEO of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Boulton’s group was one of two groups to answer the County’s request for proposals, along with the New York Mets.

As a member of the Atlantic League, the Nassau County expansion team will compete against the Long Island Ducks, who have more than 18 years remaining on their lease to play in Suffolk County at Bethpage Ballpark, instantly forming an “Expressway Rivalry.”

“We are pleased to have been awarded this opportunity,” said Boulton. “We look forward to helping County Executive Ed Mangano bring affordable, family entertainment to the taxpayers of Nassau County in the same fashion the taxpayers of Suffolk have enjoyed for 12 years with the Ducks.”

The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Clubs has brought a high level of professional baseball and affordable family entertainment to selected communities since 1998. Since beginning play 13 years ago, the contracts of more than 600 Atlantic League players have been purchased by Major League organizations. For further information, please contact the Atlantic League at (856) 541-9400.

I think that going to a Long Island Duck game could be a lot of fun – hope to see you there!

Wantagh Park Pool: Lots of Fun in the Sun But Don’t You Dare Take a Picture of It! http://longislandchick.com/wantagh-park-pool-lots-of-fun-sun-but-dont-dare-take-picture-of/ http://longislandchick.com/wantagh-park-pool-lots-of-fun-sun-but-dont-dare-take-picture-of/#comments Mon, 04 Jul 2011 13:16:56 +0000 http://longislandchick.com/?p=1593 We recently bought a season pass to Wantagh Pool because the consensus among the moms was that Wantagh Pool was the best bang for the buck. From the Nassau County website:

  • A swimming complex (fee required) includes an Olympic-sized main pool, a diving pool, a “kiddie” pool, training pool, an interactive water-play area and two water slides (30 foot). In December 2006, the pool at Wantagh Park was named “Best Public Pool on Long Island ” byLong Island Press, the weekly newspaper. The pool will open on June 27, 2010, and remains open through Labor Day.
  • The pool complex includes various conveniences, including lockers, showers, a concession stand, and lounge and deck chairs.
  • Hours: Mon.-Sun., 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Fees (daily): resident adult, $7; resident child (4-17 years of age), $5; resident senior, disabled, vol. firefighter, ambulance corps auxiliary police, veterans, $3; non-resident adult, $25, non-resident senior & child, $19. ALeisure Pass is required for residents to receive the resident rate. Seasonal passes are also available for residents with Leisure Passes, with rates as follows: families ($225); individuals ($90); and seniors ($50).

The slides are magnificent! The kids really love them and as long as the line isn’t too long, will go up and down over and over again (last week one slide was closed).  The interactive water park was a big hit with my son, Ryan – he could play there happily for hours.  We have a great mix of kids as well – one of the moms formed a facebook group for our “Camp” – Camp ScarVilla – a mash up of Jen & Gina’s last names as the founder of the Camp last year.  So throw a little tech into the mix and everyone knows what the camp is meeting up. Last week, at one point, we had 24 kids at the pool!!!

Now the only fly in the ointment (ugh I know – something my mom used to say) is that there is a rule – no cameras or video on the pool deck.  You won’t find it on the County website either – just a green sign posted on the fence outside.  We were dismayed – taking pictures is a major part of how we document our summer. We managed to sneak a few pictures anyway. Who ever heard of a camera ban rule at a County park??? I can imagine what precipitated it – some jerk teen taking pix of people and posting it on facebook to make fun of someone.  Thanks a lot jerk!!!
